Questions and Answers

Can you tell me more about your Wedding philosophy and rates?
Please remember my philosophy is NOT to run the wedding. It is an honor and a challenge to be chosen to photograph someone's wedding. I feel that weddings are sacred events and will behave in a way that reflects that. I will intrude on your day as little as possible. I use flash only when necessary, will respect requests to NOT shoot during portions of the wedding, and am very unlikely to ask you to "do that again." I do prefer to work with wedding planners/coordinators who can round up folks for the formal posed pictures before and after most traditional weddings.

My one big request is for you to make sure you love my type of photography before you hire me. I have an "artsy" and "photojournalist" type of style. If you love that about me, then please give me a call!

My flat rate for weddings is $950 for weddings within 30 minutes driving distance from McKenzie. (I charge $15 per hour for drives that are further than 30 minutes). This rate gets the client the following: A CD or DVD with high resolution digital images documenting the day, up to eight hours of on-site coverage (shooting) and up to eight hours of editing afterward (including special editing requests). A typical wedding I shoot produces 300 to 500 final images. You will also receive $100 worth of prints. If this arrangement does not meet your needs, we can discuss alternative arrangements.

After receiving your photography CD, you may make copies of the photos for family and friends. I still hold copyright, though, which means that you can't publish my photos without naming me as the photographer or sell my photos.

What are your rates for other events than weddings?
My flat rate for events (such as plays, recitals, etc) is $40 per hour for shooting and editing. The client then receives a CD of digital images to use with the same copyright notice as above.

What are your rates for private portraits?
My sitting fee is $35. Print prices are on the rates page. If a client wishes to purchase a CD of images, the cost is $250 (or after the client spends $250 with me on photographs, s/he will receive the CD for free).

What if I am a student of yours at Bethel College?
If you are a current student of mine, or a major/minor in the social sciences and have me or will have me as a teacher, ethically I can't be hired by you until after you have graduated. Unfortunately, I have disappointed several students with this policy (and I am disappointed to not be a part of someone's special time in their life), but it is the best thing for everyone.

What about giving a Bethel College Discount?
If you are not a current or future student of mine and you are associated with Bethel College (as faculty, staff, or Bethel student/graduate), let me know and I will give you a 10% discount on my rates.

What about a Ministers/Chaplains Discount?
Those who work in the Christian ministry receive a 10% discount on my rates as well.
